Donate Children’s Books for a New Library in Ghana!

ALA Hawai‘i Student Chapter (ALAsc) is running a collection drive for books to send to a library in Luvudo Village in Ghana. We will have a drop box in the LIS diner from Tuesday, March 3 (evening) until Monday, March 16 afternoon.

Amy Hengst (a friend of our treasurer, Meera), is going with Adanu back to Luvudo Village in the Ho region in eastern Ghana to help commemorate a new school library that she supported a few years ago. Amy is looking for book donations, especially books with African characters and stories, and educational texts.  Stories of children from other countries and places would also be welcome! Books can be new, used and/or former library books.

If you can’t donate books and would like to donate money, the money would go toward books and school supplies. If you’re on a neighbor island, consider mailing your books to us. Please email us for details on these two options.

Please help ALAsc support this new library in Ghana, and drop off books by Monday, March 16. Time is limited because Amy is leaving in April, and we need to mail the books to her in California so she can pack them in her suitcase.
